E-bike maintenance Tips
On this page we have tips regarding charging, transporting and cleaning your e-bike.
charging
The lifespan of lithium-ion batteries main depends on charging, operating and storage conditions. Improper use of battery can drastically shorten its lifespan and may even cause fire. Here are a few very important tips on how to properly charging your e-bike.
- Always refer to your owners manual for more detailed and brand-specific charging, storing, and maintenance instructions.
- ONLY charge your battery with the original charger designed for your specific battery generation.
Charging Conditions
- Never leave an e-bike unattended while charging for long period of time.
- Only charge your battery in a dry area at room temperature with a working smoke detector.
- If you ride in the winter season, DO NOT charge the battery until the battery itself warms back up to room temperature. For more winter tips, see here.
- Make sure the bike is completely free of moisture before charging, especially after washing.
Charging Levels
- After charging to desired level, disconnect the charger from both the e-bike and wall power to prevent overheating.
- Avoid regularly draining the battery to 0%. Also avoid always charging the battery to 100%.
- Occasional use from 100% to 0% is okay due to usage. If this happens regularly, consider: 1. reduce assist level to use less power, 2. upgrade to a bigger battery, 3. add a range extender battery to spread the load.
- For normal day-to-day use, always keep the battery between 30% - 80% will minimize chemical degradation and maximize lifespan.
- If you store the bike 1-2 months between rides, ONLY charge the battery to below 80% for storage.
- For more long-term storage tips, see here.

Transporting e-bike
If you are transporting your e-bike outside of the car. i.e., on a bike rack,
Here are a few steps to best protect the battery and the bike.
- If traveling on highway in rain, high-speed water is comparable to pressure washer. Wrap the electronics on the e-bike with plastic wrap or a cover to avoid water ingress.
- Remove the battery and external display if possible and store both in the car to avoid damage. Cover the battery contact points with specific cover to avoid damage.
- Always use an e-bike approved bike rack when transporting your e-bike.
- Only use a hitch rack or tailgate pad (for pick-up trucks)to transport heavy bikes or e-bikes. Roof racks and tailgate racks have much lower weight limit and may damage your car in heavy winds or on bumpy roads.

Cleaning
If the e-bike is dirtier than a damp cloth can handle. You can wash it, just be sure to note the following:
The Clean
- Wash off all the surface dirt and mud with garden hose
- Apply gentle soap/cleaner and use soft brush/sponge for tougher dirt or stains
- Rinse thoroughly with water
- NEVER spray water directly at bearing, or electronic connectors
- NEVER use pressure washer on a bike or e-bike
After Cleaning
- Blow dry with leaf blower/hair dryer, or towel dry
- Spend extra time to dry area for water to puddle, around electronics, or on drivetrain (rust can form if stay wet)
