E-bike & Electronic Shifting Battery Care

Still Riding Outside in Winter?

NEVER charge a battery when it’s cold from the outside, wait for a few hours when it warms up to room temperature, then connect it to the charger. DO NOT attempt to use a direct heat source to speed up the warming process. Failure to do so can shorten your battery’s lifespan or cause serious fire.

E-Bike Battery Storage

The battery on your e-bike is the most sensitive component when storing the bike for an extended period. Here are a few tips to make sure you store the battery safely and maximize its lifespan.

General Procedure

  • Remove the Battery: If your battery is removable, take it off the bike and store it separately.

  • Charge Level: (Vary by manufacturer, as shown below.) But NEVER full or empty, not only this will reduce battery’s lifespan, it may cause fire!

  • Temperature: store the battery in a dry, climate-controlled space, between 10-20°CDO NOT leave it in a garage or shed where temperatures could drop below 10°C, NOR by the fireplace or furnace duct where temperatures can ride above 45°C, storing batteries outside of this range can cause serious fire.

  • Regular Check: Check battery level every month

  • Recharge: (Vary by manufacturer, as shown below.)

  • Fully Charge: At the beginning of the season, FULLY charge the battery before you go out riding, this is CRUCIAL as it will re-calibrate the BMS system to "remind" it how much battery capacity it has. Also, this avoids leaving you stranded mid-ride.

Manufacturer-Specific Instructions

  • Charge Level: For long-term storage, charge the battery to around 50–70%.
